The saga of Ranarim begins on a winter's day in 1997 on the train to northernmost tip of Norway. Two folk singers, one from Ångermanland, one from Dalarna. A world champion nyckelharpa player from southern Sweden and a guitar/mandola player from Stockholm. All on their first tour together. Since then the journeys have been many and longer.

Their first CD "Till the Light of Day" (Till ljusan dag), released in 2000, not only in Sweden but also in the United States and Japan, was followed by intensive touring around the world. Just in time for their next record, "Life Loves the Unexpected" released in 2003 they are joined by a double-bass player and a percussionist.

Ranarim performes both as a quartet and a sextett.
